 Welcome to Point O’Woods

Point O’Woods is a unique community situated on Fire Island in Suffolk County, New York. In 1898, Point O’Woods was established as a summer retreat for members, their families and their guests by the Point O’ Woods Association. As one of the oldest settlements on Fire Island, it maintains an old world charm with beach cottages, foliage lined pathways, an ocean-side club, a private bay and an original yacht club structure from the early 1900’s.

Today, Point O’Woods hosts families who have enjoyed the beach side village for generations. With a strong family focus, the community spends the summer months enjoying everything the community offers, including swimming, sailing, bike riding and playing tennis. By night, the members enjoy socializing with friends, dining at The Club as well as hosting house gatherings.

You’ll work alongside a passionate and talented team, you’ll enjoy a gorgeous New York summer in simple beachside accommodations, you’ll develop valuable professional knowledge and skills, and over the course of the season you’ll form lifelong friendships with people from all walks of life.

We have various positions available over the summer months. Whether you are a seasoned professional looking for new experiences or you would like to develop new skills and expertise, we have positions in hospitality, maintenance, sports coaching, customer service and more.   • Employee Experience

    • One of the wonderful things about living, working and enjoying recreational time at Point O' Woods is there is no motor traffic. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, members and staff walk or ride their bikes around the community - with quick and easy access to fresh air and the beach. Just think, only ten minutes after work, you could be swimming in the ocean, running on the beach, or exploring the island by bike. Our season starts in April/May and some positions span to the end of October. We consider candidates who are available to work for varying lengths of time, but we favor those who are able to work our busiest months in July and August. Most staff will enjoy two days off per week.

  • Room & Board

    • We provide room and board for select full time positions. We have furnished rooms available at various locations across the community. Some of these rooms are situated in a beachside dormitory with mostly private and some shared rooms. You’ll have access to wifi and free laundry facilities. 

      Staff residing in community-provided housing are subject to our housing policy and regulations.

      For select staff, the kitchen staff provides nutritious buffet-style meals daily, as well as access to other facilities such as tea, coffee, snacks, microwaves, and refrigerators for staff use.

  • For Fun

    • During the season, we like to treat our team to special events where we host picnics, games, outings and activities. These events are designed exclusively for staff and are a way we can express appreciation for their time and commitment to our community.

  • Transport
      • Access to Point O'Woods is by private ferry. The Point O'Woods Ferry Terminal is located at 82 Maple Avenue, Bay Shore, New York 11706.
      • From New York City, you can take the LIRR to Bay Shore.
      • At the Bay Shore station, there are jitneys available to transport you to the Ferry Terminal. Alternatively, you can hire a car or book an Uber/Lyft, or you can walk to the Ferry Terminal in 10 minutes from the train station.
      • All new and returning employees must arrange and pay for their own transportation to and from the Ferry Terminal.
      • Car storage: If you intend to bring a car with you, it will be necessary for you to make arrangements to store it on Long Island because there are no personal motor vehicles allowed on Fire Island.
      • You may wish to bring a bicycle.
